Description des services: Provides a culturally-based program to support and address concerns of Indigenous youth

Education
  • Provides educational advocacy at Atikokan High School and St Pat's Separate School; in cases of school suspension, can offer student a place to spend time
  • Offers homework time at the Centre with access to computers and Internet
  • Assists with developing resumes, cover letters and completing job applications
  • Participates in professional training courses including autism workshops, canoeing courses, food handling courses and smoking cessation workshops
Healthy Eating and Physical Development
  • Holds individual and group discussions on healthy lifestyle choices including concerns and prevention of diabetes and high blood pressure and benefits of exercise
  • Teaches a cooking class with a focus on healthy choices and the use of traditional foods
  • Supervises and plans regular wilderness outings
Justice Intervention
  • Provides support to incarcerated individuals including accompaniment to court hearings
  • Accompanies any youth registered in agency programs to court proceedings if requested
Social Supports
  • Provides individual support for areas youth may be struggling with such as socialization and peer pressure
  • Supervises trips to cultural, educational or recreational activities
Violence Prevention
  • Teaches about effects of problematic alcohol and substance use
  • Provides support for individuals undergoing drug and alcohol treatment
Youth in Care
  • Provides cultural education and support for youth living in foster homes within community
