Description des services: Functions as the governing centre for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities
Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
  • Hospital services available at the Meno Ya Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout
  • Patients requiring hospitalization can be flown to the Meno Ya Win Health Centre by air ambulance from the Isaac Barkman Memorial Nursing Station in about 4 hours under ideal conditions (weather, aircraft availability, etc)
  • Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements through Nishnawbe-Aski Police Services, Northwest Region; local phone: 807-595-2599; fax: 807-595-1244
  • Child & Family services provided by Tikinagan Child & Family Services
  • Offers a few small private businesses, a large Northern Store and Sachigo Lake Motel and a restaurant
  • Provides a Canada Post postal station located at the Sachigo Lake Business Centre
  • Serviced by air through Wasaya Airways at the Sachigo Lake Airport located 2 km N of community; maintained and serviced by Ministry of Transportation Ontario
  • Organizes and hosts an Annual Sachigo Lake First Nation Ice Fishing Derby and many events such as community hunts and feasts, jamborees, sports tournaments and community cleanup days
  • Offers regular church services through Pentecostal, Anglican, and Full Gospel assemblies
  • Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and drug and alcohol abuse awareness
  • Administers Martin McKay Memorial School and education services under the Sachigo Lake Education Authority in partnership with Windigo Tribal Council
  • Provides a Volunteer Fire Department
  • Provides health care and health programs at Isaac Barkman Memorial Nursing Station
  • Supports a Public Library for community members at the school
  • Offers hockey and community events at the Phillip Tait arena
