Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Shoal Lake 40 First Nation- Tribal Council: Bimose Tribal Council (BTC)

Functions as the governing office for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:- Hospital services available at Lake of the Woods District Hospital in Kenora
- Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements through Treaty #3 Police Services, Kenora Central Region; call 1-888-310-1122; fax: 807-548-8387
- Child & Family Services provided by Anishinaabe Abinooji Family Services, Kenora office ph: 807-468-6224, fax: 807-468-6643
- Shoal Lake is the main source of drinking water for Winnipeg and Falcon Lake; Shoal Lake #40 community members transported water by truck or barge from Kenora due to lack of water treatment plant for over 24 years
- New water treatment plant construction started in summer of 2020; completed in Sept 2021
- Offers a privately-run community store and a Community Hall
- Provides indoor activities at the school gymnasium and outdoor recreational facilities including a baseball diamond, tennis court, volley ball court and an open field
- Hosts an Annual Fall Harvest for all community members
- Provides a Canada Post postal station
- Administers a new Harvey Redsky Memorial School and Shoal Lake 40 Child Care Centre
- Provides the Shoal Lake Medical Centre
