Description des services: Provides programs and services to improve the quality of life for urban Indigenous people with a focus on social, educational and cultural development

Delivers a parenting support program and promotes child development
  • Offers group and individual parenting sessions on topics of interest
  • Provides information on the stages of pregnancy
  • Teaches about preparation for parenting and caregiving
  • Provides parenting awareness and healthy sexuality education, including pregnancy options directed to teenagers or young women and men
  • Provides assistance with transportation to appointments and other services
  • Incorporates Native traditional teachings, language and cultural approach into the delivery of the program
  • Early intervention and prevention screening
Program participants are provided with:
  • Welcome basket for new births; weighs babies
  • Follow up via telephone within 48 hours of discharge from hospital
  • Home visits pre birth to prepare family for new arrival
  • Home visits post birth to offer support to new mothers
  • Home visits during child's early years to offer development guidance
  • Breast feeding support and supplies
  • Referrals to other programs and services
Car Seat Inspections
  • Provides trained inspections in partnership with OPP for child and infant car seats
  • Provides information on regulations concerning child car seats
Programs
  • Healthy Parent Group offered every Wed 11 am-2 pm (transportation provided)
  • 12 week Native Traditional Parent Course offered twice a year (registration required)

  • Open to referrals from any source; self-referral accepted for families requiring support in the home

  • Requires advance registration

  • Individuals and families with children younger than 6 years of age

  • Open to all with a focus on off reserve Indigenous peoples, youth and teenagers
